The Caatinga is the dominant vegetation in the semiarid region of northeastern Brazil, where sheep and goats are raised almost always having extensively as a food source that originated the forage vegetation, which in most cases is able to overgrazing as a result of inadequate management, practice identified as a major factor in degradation of the Caatinga. The savanna vegetation covering an area of approximately 10% of the country, becoming the most important source of food for the animals in this region. Depending on the season comes to compose up to 90% in the diet of goats and sheep. Therefore aimed to evaluate the biome Caatinga about data on the chemical composition of forage species pastejáveis by goats grazing in semi-arid Pernambuco. During this review will discuss some aspects such as availability, management, sward botanical composition, chemical composition and nutritive value of ruminant diets in relation to the savanna biome. |
