The present study aims to produce meaning for the educational past, that is, for education history, having the memory of retired teachers as reference. The problem that guided us was verifying how the history of education is lived and how it is related to the teaching life. The proposal comprises retired teachers trajectory along teaching in the state schools of Rio Grande do Sul in a longitudinal cut the long process of their lives , in three moments: their professional choice for teaching and academic formation, their professional performance and their retired lives. Concerning theoretical-methodological aspects, this research is in accordance with the qualitative approach, based fundamentally on their oral stories of life. The reconstitution of memory is made by means of semistructured interviews aiming to comprise the objectives of this work. The central concepts of memory refer to their collective feature, that is, the sharing of their significations and the consideration that remembering starts from the present. The participating retired teachers of this research became main subjects of the work. For this reason, the type of textual construction of this study places evidence in their voices. Thus, the whole text is permeated and conducted by such voices, which are also found entirely in the body of the text. Next, the study identifies the motivations which led those teachers to the teaching career, and their formation process, emphasizing traditional education and the importance of the teaching school. Regarding teachers performances, the central focus is their pedagogic-methodological conceptions and the images produced along the professional way. Finally, the emphasis is put on their lives after retirement and involves everyday tasks and their relation with the past. The research, along the text, makes approaches/confrontation which allow advancing to memory analyses, while keeping respect in relation to singularities/specificities |
