Resumo: The early 20th century classical music was defined by innovative proposals. The questioning about the resolution figure in compositions would be responsible for the emergence of numerous avant-garde tendencies opposed to traditional standards. Musical modernism would be characterized by a reassessment and expansion of the tonal system, by the deconstruction of sound hierarchies and the using of noises in composition. In Rio Grande do Sul the changing in artistic expressions and especially, on musical expression, occurred years later than the main cultural centers of the country and the rest of the world. This research aims to examine how the process of changing has occurred in musical composition of Rio Grande do Sul state between the years 1926 to 1945. For such purpose some musical works of the following composers: Armando Albuquerque, Natho Henn, Radamés Gnattali and Luiz Cosme will be observed. This allows us to perceive the way that the musical composition had been used that time and how it incorporates new possibilities and disruption elements to the tonal structures and typically regional sound elements used currently
