Resumo: Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate weight, body length and the gastrocnemius muscle of offspring of rats submitted to exposure to second-hand smoke and swimming program and. Methods: Ten female rats were divided into groups: G1 (control), G2 (exposed to cigarette smoke) and five male rats. The female pups were separated after lactation , the group from its headquarters in G_CN control (swimming), G_CS (sedentary control), G_FN (exposed swimming) and G_FS (exposed sedentary). The body weight of the pups was measured at six time points. The gastrocnemius muscle of the pups was obtained for evaluation of muscle development. For statistical analysis, was used ANOVA for repeated measures and ANOVA One-Way, considering p<0.05. Results: Puppies of G1 showed higher weights at birth (p=0.011) and longer lengths from the first week (p<0.0001) compared to pups of G2, the difference between the groups persisted into adulthood. The measured of smaller diameter fibers in G1CS and G1FN group was higher compared to G1CN. Conclusions: Observed that pups submitted to passive smoking during their pregnancy and lactation showed abnormalities in growth and the swimming protocol did not show significant changes.
