Resumo: In Brazil, Cotesia flavipes (Cameron, 1891) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) is used as biological control agent for sugarcane borer, Diatraea saccharalis (Fabricus, 1794) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) since 1976. The purpose of this study was to develop a biodegradable paper box, as a new packaging for marketing, transportation and release of C. flavipes in sugarcane crops. After obtaining the new package (rectangular box with 10.0 × 4.5 × 4.5 cm), we evaluated the influence of the new package and traditional in biological parameters of C. flavipes. We compared the influence of packaging in C. flavipes transported by different ways and the influence in the field parasitism. Also degradation tests of packages were made and the estimated production parasitoid cost using the different packages were performed. The number of C. flavipes female descendants was higher in biodegradable packaging (490.1 females) in the F4 generation; to other generations the kind of package did not influence the number of female descendants obtained by pupae mass. When we evaluated the parasitoid release in the field packed in different packages, we observed low parasitism. Samples of biodegradable material showed rapid degradation process, disappearing completely within 90 days. The cost of packages influences the final cost of the parasitoid mass being R$ 0.0698 to insects produced in plastic cups, R$ 0.0730 in biodegradable cups and R$ 0.0712 in biodegradable boxes. The results obtained in this study open the possibility of using the developed package that is completely biodegradable and compatible with the cost of mass production in laboratory, transport and release of C. flavipes in the field
