Resumo: The aim of this study was to evaluate fracture resistance of temporary bridges as the influence of the addition of a modified nylon mesh in a bis-acrylic resin (Structur 2SC, VOCO, Cuxhaven, Germany). To the first step a temporary fixed prosthesis was made and were analyzed the presence or absence of the fiber and your position (horizontal or vertical). Some groups was subjected to thermal cycling of 1,000 to simulate a temporary fixed prosthesis with extended use period. All specimens were subjected to the test of fracture resistance in a universal testing machine (EMIC DL 1000, EMIC, Brazil), with a speed of 1.0 mm / min. For the second experiment, the test specimens was made in bar shaped (25 x 10.5 x 3.3 mm). The bars were analyzed concerning groups containing or not fibers. Some specimens were subjected to thermal cycling 1,000 cycles. All bars were submitted to the flexural strength by three points bending test in a universal testing machine at constant speed 5 mm/min with load cell of 10 kN. Statistical analysis was performed with Kruskal-Wallis and Dunn tests (5%) and demonstrated that the incorporation and arrangement of the mesh influence the fracture toughness and flexural strength of the bis-acrylic resin was improved afte adding the mesh
