Resumo: The paints are mixtures of organic and inorganic materials, forming a viscous and homogeneous liquid. Due to the variety of compounds used in their manufacture, these materials are susceptible to contamination by microorganisms during the production process, storage and after application. Fungi and bacteria that are able to grow in paint cause the deterioration of the product and losses for manufacturer and consumer. The present work aimed to isolate and identify filamentous fungi from deteriorated paint and industry effluents samples, to evaluate the potential of them to grow in the presence of the paint and its components, when added to the medium culture. It was isolated 32 fungi strains, which were identified belonging to 10 different genera. These fungi were cultured on medium which were added: 1) paint, 2) Resin (methylmethacrylate), 3) carbendazim (fungicide), 4) Methyl isothiazolinone (MIT) (bactericidal), 5) Atrazine (algicide). The fungi that grew in the presence of these compounds were selected for degradation test in submerged cultivation. The fungi Aspergillus niger FB14, Trichoderma longibrachiatum FB01 and Fusarium solani FB07, selected for degradation MIT tests, were able to degrade this compound in 24 h...
