Resumo: | The work analyzes the production of the urban space in the city of Manaus/Amazonas State, focusing on the production of housing in the irregular urban occupation, considering various agents of fixedness and change that guide this production, which are reflected in it. The study focused in four phases wich produced and reproduced the urban space in Manaus. Phases that complement each other and do not end in themselves, since they are present nowadays in the urban area of Manaus, being crystallized in the landscape. With the objective of identifying the expansion of the urban space of Manaus to the East from the production of popular housing, the research is limited by a specific city hall laws No. 1.401 of January 14, 2010, which divides the East zone into 11 (eleven) neighborhoods; wich are: Armando Mendes, Antônio Colônia, Aleixo, Coroado, Industrial District II, Gilberto Mestrinho, Jorge Teixeira, Mauazinho, Puraquequara, São José Operário, Tancredo Neves and Zumbi dos Palmares. The thesis search to explain that the macro vector for the production and reproduction of this urban space of Manaus are the irregular land occupations. In order to identify the thesis plausibility, it was first necessary to create an understanding of Manaus urban space genesis and its later expansion; Then, a survey in order to know the history of irregular occupations in the eastern part of the city. As a continuation of the specific objectives, the study searched to verify this area reproduction through socioeconomic characteristics of its residents. The methodological paths of the research looked for literatures that contained knowledge about Manaus genesis. I emphasize as key literatures in this process of theoretical construction the writings of Ab'Saber (2004); Bitencourt (1969); Daou (2000); Hanry Bates (1979); Mesquita (2006); Oliveira (2003) and Tocantins (1973). In order to reach the proposed objectives, the research based on official data provided by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, Government Departments and City Hall. Research in the newspapers collection from the 1970s to the present day, in the Public Library of the Amazonas State was also carried out. The field activities accomplished visiting all the eleven studied neighborhoods, with direct observation, informal conversations with residents and photographic records procedures. As main findings, the thesis highlights the fact that of the 11 (eleven) neighborhoods produced, 05 (five) suffered initially an interference from the State government, while the others were initiated as a result of the irregular occupation of the land. Despite this first intervention, the State did not controlled the reproduction of these neighborhoods, being later irregularly occupied. Finally, the study points out that because of the multiple agents acting as urban space producers in the eastern zone of Manaus, the studied area shows heterogeneity, being divided by this study, from the arteries that interconnect the Eastern zone in 07 (seven) main sectors. These sectors stamp in Manaus landscape, dialectical processes, with apparent contradictions, while others not so apparent, however, subjected to identification by the investigative look of researchers attentive to socio-spatial transformations. |
