Resumo: Thrashnation: Representations of fear in the imagery of Thrash Metal North American 1980 it‟s a work dedicated to the study of Heavy Metal and variations. We analyze the representations of fear in contemporaneity from the images productions made by bands of Thrash Metal in the United States. We understand that the images are endowed with senses, intentionality and historicity that make the work of the relevant historian and at the same time exciting. Analyze the tonalities used in a photograph or painting, the objects represented, angles, techniques and receptivity of the final work raises countless questions. Our purpose is to reflect how society deals with complex issues such as sudden changes in everyday life, morals, culture, religion, politics, sexuality, death and others in a period marked by the end disputes of the Cold War from the use of images. The research starts from the perspective of history and culture to think the imaginary, their representations and approaches with the sensitivities and mentalities. Our objectives: how musicians of Thrash Metal understood and represented the changing world? How they dealt with controversial issues such as militarism, the role of the state, religious conservatism and the future prospects? As the music industry dealing with this new production called Thrash Metal? Our sources consist of images of the covers of Thrash Metal bands discs produced during the 1980s as Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax. These cases bring in their imagistic issues relevant to the historian's work, and therefore very rich source for historiographical analysis.
