In the research presented here, we apply the drums and the concepts of motor coordination and polyrhythm to expand the technical, sonorous and rhythmic vocabulary of the performer, considering the drum, in specific moments, as a melodic instrument, expanding its central function, which, generally, is the rhythmic accompaniment or keeping time appropriately. In this way, we carried out the analysis and the study of motor coordination exercises based on the “systems' methodology, and applied the results in experimental workshops, performing compositions with additional pedals, instruments and accessories, which are common in percussion sets, adapted to drum. In this arrangement, three Brazilian compositions, with distinct rhythms, were worked out. Their names are as follows: Baião Quebrado, Samba Só and Maracatudo. In the performance of these compositions, we applied the results obtained with the technical and motor study realized, with the purpose of demonstrating different interpretative possibilities. Then, finally, we reflected upon their relevance and applicability in musical context
