Resumo: This dissertation investigated the wage labor conditions in the Northeast region of Brazil from 2012 to 2022, amidst political and economic changes and the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic. It utilized annual data from the Continuous National Household Sample Survey (PNAD-C) and a comparative approach between formal and informal workers across economic sectors (Agriculture, General Industry, Construction Industry, and Services), using an Employment Quality Indicator (EQI) for workers in the Northeast region. This study analyzed the evolution of the working conditions of salaried workers in the Northeast from the perspective of economic sectors (Agriculture, General Industry, Construction Industry, and Services) between 2012 and 2022. To this end, different hypotheses were formulated for sub-periods, highlighting a deterioration of working conditions over time, especially after 2015. The results emphasized the high informality in the Northeast region, with agriculture presenting the worst working conditions. The research also contributed to fostering new reflections on the Northeastern economy regarding the conditions of salaried workers in that region, as well as providing a broader understanding of the labor market dynamics in Northeast Brazil and their socioeconomic implications.
