Resumo: | We believe that the fictional space is not only limited by the characterization of landscapes or characters, but it acts, especially, establishing senses that reveal aspirations and social practices and surpasses the mere background function as provides the enrichment of the text through the possibilities of understanding generated by its presentation. Thus, the present dissertation aims at analyzing the space, mainly the garden and its projections, and also aims at underlining the influence exercised by the garden over the characters, causing transformations, as well as its importance in the construction of literary and filmic narratives of The Secret Garden, book by English writer Frances Hodgson Burnett, published in 1911, and movie under the same name, directed by Agnieszka Holland, released in 1993. Thus, we are going to present how character constitution is directed linked to spaces, as it points the representations characterized as fantastic that permeate the narrative, in a way that evidences how the fantastic ambience (may, or may not), be related to processes of subjectivation of the protagonists. Besides that, we will highlight how the evolution of plots happens through the gardens, and also accentuate the importance of this space, which is both relevant and responsible for the approximation of filmic and literary texts. We based such analysis on the theoretical assumptions of Michel Foucault, Wolfgang Iser, Gilles Deleuze, Félix Guattari, Tzvetan Todorov, Gaston Bachelard, Filipe Furtado, Ismail Xavier, Pierre Grimal, Roland Barthes and others, giving us the necessary analytical theoretical background. |
