Resumo: | Population increase, acceleration of the urbanization process, technological changes and improvement of the socioeconomic conditions of society are issues that have brought environmental issues to a central position in the various sectors of society. Selective Collection is the subject of public policies applied to all instances and entities of the Federation. Law No. 12,305, dated August 2, 2010, instituted the National Solid Waste Policy (PNRS) and objectively assigned responsibilities to waste generators and public authorities. Specifically in the case of the organs and entities of the direct and indirect federal public administration, the issue is regulated by Decree 5.940 of 2006, which establishes the Selective Solidarity Collection, understood as the separation of recyclable waste in the generating source, and the destination of the materials to associations And cooperatives of recyclable materials collectors. It is within this context that this work is inserted, which aims to evaluate the socioeconomic, environmental and legal impacts of the UFU (Federal University of Uberlândia) Selective Collection Program, based on the perception of the academic community, indicating limits, advances and possibilities. In methodological terms, this is a case study, with qualitative and quantitative data, obtained respectively through participant observation and data collection instrument hosted in a research platform. The results indicate that the Selective Collection Program of the Federal University of Uberlândia is not effective in any of the evaluated aspects. It is concluded that many actions and resolutions should be taken to correct the course of the program, including in them the PGRS - Solid Waste Management Program of the Institution that is still under discussion.
