Resumo: | The theme of sustainability has been prominent in the last three decades triggering reflections about environmental issues. Among many others, an issue that stands out is the selective collection. Since the approval of the National Solid Waste Policy (NSWP), in 2010, the correct destination of waste has been included in the public managers’ and civil society’s agenda. This is largely because NSWP has set goals that must be accomplished. One of them is the implementation of selective collection programs in all municipalities in Brazil. This goal is closely bonded to an important segment that has always “lived from the garbage", the recyclable waste pickers. This work aims to understand the role that the collectors fulfill in the selective collection policy of Uberlandia. With this, we will try to portray such policy in the city. More precisely, we seek through categories of Karl Marx's social theory to analyze the limits and possibilities of solidary economy as an instrument of critique and transformation of capitalist society. |
