Resumo: | In situations such as prematurity, newborn hospitalization, as well as low milk production by the own mother or a disease that contraindicates or disables breast-feeding, donated human milk (HM) becomes an efficient alternative to newborns nutrition. In order to guarantee a greater offer, the milking can be performed both in human milk bank (HMB) and at home by the donor human milk. This study aimed at evaluating human milk quality milked at home and in HMB´s by comparing the evaluation of the titratable acidity values assessment and microbiological culture in both milking places. This a retrospective analytical observational study, performed by the evaluation of titratable acidity records of 50 HM samples milked at home, and 50 samples milked at the HMB, in 2014. A main interaction effect between local and titratable acidity degree was not observed, and there was no statistical significance between the observed and expected values for the association between the collection site and the microbiological culture result. Milked human milk (MHM) quality at home and HMB are in accordance with the preconized quality standard for HMB; HM home milked is as safe as HMB milked since the established hygiene, conservation, storing and transport standards are followed. |
