Resumo: |
The integration to the college life is a process that deserves special attention, because it is related to the academic acting and to the students' health. The Integration into college life inventory (I-IVU) is a Puerto Rican instrument, in Spanish language, composed by 60 items distributed in four dimensions, with five options of answers, that evaluates the integration of the freshman student to the college life. This study had as general objectives to accomplish the transcultural adaptation of the I-IVU and to evaluate metric properties of the adapted version for the use in Brazil. It was about a methodological study that it was held through two great phases: the transcultural adaptation of the I-IVU and the validation of the inside structure of the adapted version. The process of transcultural adaptation was developed according to the recommendations of the international and national literatures: translation, evaluation by a committee of judges, back-translation, semantics evaluation and pre-test. The evaluation of the metric properties was accomplished through the validity and reliability. Face and content validities and the construct validities: dimensional, convergent and known groups. The reliability was analyzed through the test-retest and the inside consistence. In the process of transcultural adaptation of the I-IVU for the Brazilian Portuguese, the adapted version presented the semantics, idiomatic, conceptual and cultural equivalences, the face and content validities. The evaluation phase of the metric properties of the adapted version had the participation of 888 students of the first year of 24 degree courses of the Triângulo Mineiro Federal University, campus Uberaba. In relation to the dimensionality, the model presented appropriate adjustment to the dimensional structure proposed in just a parameter, the Root Mean Square Error of Aproximation (RMSEA=0,064). The validity of convergent construct was evidenced through the correlations among the scores of the I-IVU and the variables self-esteem, academic experiences, family monthly income and punctuation obtained to enter in the course. The construct validity for known groups was confirmed by the comparison of I-IVU dimensions between groups defined by the variables gender, skin color, having a graduation and course of the dreams. The reproductibility of the test-retest confirmed the temporary stability of the instrument and the inside consistence was appropriate (α=0,93), indicating the reliability of the I-IVU. It got to the conclusion that the process of transcultural adaptation of the I-IVU was10 accomplished with success and that the adapted version presented good metric properties and it can be used as a tool for evaluation of the integration of freshman students to the college life in Brazil. |
