Resumo: INTRODUCTION. Rhinophyma causes severe nasal deformity, promoting severe stigmatization, social reclusion, and low self-esteem. These symptoms are aggravated by poor disclosure about the disease and effective treatment options. The fractionated carbon dioxide laser has been helpful in the rhinophyma therapy since it is a noninvasive and outpatient use procedure, with simple handling and lower risk of complications. OBJECTIVES. This study was carried out aiming at the development and validation of flowchart for diagnosis and treatment with fractionated CO2 laser, and the assessment of the impact of treatment with fractionated CO2 laser on self-esteem and satisfaction of rhinophyma patients. METHOD. A flowchart of medical care for rhinophyma patients and systematization of fractionated CO2 laser parameters was developed and validated. To analyze its clinical application, 12 rhinophyma patients were submitted to CO2 laser treatment according to the developed flowchart, and the patient satisfaction self-esteem assessments were determined from questionnaires applied. RESULTS. Nine experts validated the flowchart in a single round of appreciation. The item "Objective and Relevance" obtained an IVC of 0.978; The item "Structure and Presentation" presented IVC of 1.0. After the end of the treatment, there was a decrease in score got from Rosenberg’s Self-Esteem Scale. All patients showed to be pleased with the cosmetic results and they would recommend similar treatment to their acquaintances. CONCLUSIONS. The flowchart developed is easily understandable, favoring the propagation of the indicated treatment in several services. The fractional ablative CO2 laser confers satisfaction and substantial improvement on the self-esteem of patients with rhinophyma.
