Introduction: Female urinary incontinence isn’t a menace for the patients life, but consume the patients and heath system resources and, in Brazil, we know just a little about what is and how much is this expendures. Objective: Direct costs estimation, medical an non-medical, involved in diagnosis and treatment of female urinary incontinence, by the public health perspective, and hygiene daily care by the patients perspective. Method: A cross sectional prospective study was developed using a structured questionnaire. Costs of medical services (diagnostics and treatment) were considered. Resource use was valued using government reimbursement for hospital services and retail prices for the patient’s expendures. Results: 645 patients were evaluated. The mean times from the beginning of the symptoms until the treatment outcome was 5 years. The mean monthly familiar incomes is R{dollar} 800,00 and the mean patients expendure with laundry, because of the urinary incontinence, was estimated in R{dollar} 36,8. The Diagnosis for urinary incontinence received R{dollar} 40,32 reimbursed and the treatment had a mean reimbursement of R{dollar} 405,20 for the surgery and R{dollar} 129,32 for the physiotherapy sessions by the government. Conclusion: Female urinary incontinence have a estimated out-of-the-pocket expendure was R{dollar} 2.208,00 form the first symptoms moment until the treatment outcome and this value can be a high impact on the familiar budget. The conservative estimative of reimbursement by the government for the diagnosis and treatment of the evaluated patients is R{dollar} 165.347,76. |
