This study aims to present a historical panorama of the main initiatives that approach art and education in multidisciplinary actions realised by the municipal government of São Paulo. The research starts from the actions developed by the Departamento de Cultura, in 1930’s decade, when were created the Parques Infantis, it pass trough to the creation of Secretaria Municipal de Cultura and the Escola Municipal de Iniciação Artística in 1880’s decade, arriving until recent periods, in years 2000, when the Centros de Educação Unificados were inaugurated and the Programa of Iniciação Artística was created. We emphasize the study of methodologies and approaches of Escola de Iniciação Artística - Emia and the Programa de Iniciação Artística - PIA, in reason of the innovative nature of both initiatives. We deepen the study of PIA, that is the mostly recent of them to understand its approximations and convergences in comparison to other experiences and their contributions to formation of publics and citizens involved in art and culture.
