Resumo: This dissertation is about The childhood in the serials of the newspaper A Província de São Paulo (1875-1889) and is an integral part of the research - Shaping Childhood: subjects and institutions [between the nineteenth century and the twenty-first century]. As part of this larger research, the present study aims to investigate the Serial Section of the aforementioned newspaper, a communication vehicle of the São Paulo press, and which constituted speeches, through which it intended to inform the population of São Paulo and Brazil about the world and the more appropriate ways of perceiving it. The temporal clipping privileged the initial years of its circulation until the last years of the imperial regime. Thus, the serials that circulated since its launch on January 4, 1875 (Magdalena, by Julio Sandeau) until 1889 (The Puritans of Paris, by Paulo Bocage) are the corpus of analysis. At this time, Brazilian Republic was proclaimed, since then, the newspaper started to be called O Estado de São Paulo e investigated how the serials were presented, to whom they were addressed and what kind of language they used. For the analysis of the documents that gave rise to this research, the historiography of childhood and children, both national and foreign, was used, as well as the dialogue with the areas of Education, Press, Print and Reading, which subsidized the understanding of the Aspects of production, representation, circulation and use of serials.
