Resumo: The perception of the world and the environment consists of an interactive construction influenced by experiences, values and knowledge, shaped by interaction with the environment. In this context, this study sought to understand the environmental perception of those practicing sports activities on the trails of the Environmental Protection Area (APA) of Lajeado da Cruz (LC) and its surroundings, regarding the consequences of their respective actions, located in Cruz Alta, Rio Grande do Sul. The specific objectives of the research covered an analysis of the socio-environmental conditions present in the Lajeado da Cruz APA (APALC), an investigation into the perception of sports practitioners in relation to their actions and the environmental impacts caused by activities on the trails. Methodologically, the research adopted a qualitative approach, collecting data through semi-structured interviews and questionnaires applied to trail users. The justification for this study is intrinsic to the relevance of raising awareness among visitors about the environmental impact resulting from their activities, with the aim of promoting the preservation of the ecosystem and encouraging the development of sustainable tourism in the region. The analysis of the environmental perception of sports practitioners on APALC trails aimed to understand the degree of awareness of these individuals in relation to the effects that their actions have on the surrounding environment, in order to form effective strategies for environmental management and environmental education. This study allowed us to better understand the public that frequents APALC trails, thus providing support for the implementation of conservation measures and sustainable use strategies, while revealing the need to promote ecological education to further develop levels of ecological awareness among practitioners. sports, so that they can understand their role in preserving the environment. In summary, the research addressed the complex relationship between sporting activities on APALC trails and their environmental effects, highlighting the need for a sensible balance between the use of the environment for recreational activities and the conservation of nature for future generations.
