Resumo: | This Master's Thesis is the result of a Research Project entitled "The formation of the municipality of São Miguel das Missões and the uses of historical patrimony in the 1970s and 1980s", which was developed in the Research Line "Memory and Heritage" of the Program of Post-graduation in History of the Federal University of Santa Maria, with the assistance of a CAPES/DS. Thus, we seek to understand how the historical heritage of the reductional period was used and fired in the composition of speeches, attending to the interests of certain political groups in São Miguel das Missões and Santo Ângelo in the 1980s. For this, we used the periodicals “Tribuna Regional” and “Jornal das Missões”, both of Santo Ângelo, as well as the emancipatory process, present in the Legislative Assembly of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The decades of 1970 and 1980 marked a new look at the past of the region, where regional leaders sought to affirm the links identities with the past of the territory. In this process, the archaeological site of São Miguel Arcanjo gained prominence for the buildings it houses, becoming a symbol in the construction of regional memory. But also, it became a bargaining tool for groups, who were interested in regional economic development through tourism. This process, permeated by selections, appropriations and forgetfulness, made invisible and marginalized certain groups in the regional memory, demonstrating that the historical heritage constitutes a field of disputes between social groups. |
