Resumo: The present research presents reflections referring to rice production in the municipality of São Sepé/RS, taking into account the time frame, between 1990 and 2022. The objective of this study is to understand how this productive dynamic develops in the face of recurrent transformations of the rural space, taking into account its productive, socioeconomic and environmental organization, as well as the challenges and prospects for the future of culture. The study proposes an in-depth analysis of the spatial organization influenced by market demands and the insertion of capital, relating local characteristics to the national agricultural dynamics. As evidence, we highlight the expansion of soybeans in the Pampa Biome and the significant transformations of this productive rearrangement in the agrarian space of Rio Grande do Sul, impacting sectors such as rice cultivation and livestock. In this way, studying rice cultivation in this space is relevant to analyze the effects resulting from this spread of soybeans, especially considering its economic, social and internal supply relevance. The procedures employed for the analysis and discussion of this investigation, as well as for answering the problem and achieving the proposed objectives, are characterized by a qualitative, bibliographical and field approach. During the field work, systematic observation, interviews, photographic records were used and, as a conclusion, the analysis and interpretation of data that made it possible to understand the structuring of rice growing in the municipality. , rice farming is at a turning point, with numerous challenges and possible opportunities ahead. However, even though it faces significant challenges and is subject to changes in its practices, it will continue to be a vital source of income and food for the population. This alignment indicates the complexity and intrinsic importance of rice farming, not only as an economic activity, but also as a pillar of food security and preservation of cultural traditions.
