Resumo: Several environmental factors can cause sensory stimuli and cause effects on human behavior, including an element that is always present, easy to apply and that exerts great interference: color. In addition to its functional applicability, colors have multiple symbolic attributions, referring to memories, feelings and experiences, affecting individuals physiologically and psychologically. The sensations that each person has when observing a color will depend on aspects related to their experience and particular formation, and may have different meanings for each observer. Currently, there is little concern with the proper use of color in children's school environments, through the repetition of patterns and choices based on economics and design preferences. The current school receives, in addition to the children, other agents who live together and carry out their activities in the spaces, such as teachers and interns, who need to carry out their tasks of concentration in the same space destined for children. This work seeks to verify the influence that colors applied in early childhood education schools exert on educators – teachers and scholarship holders, problematizing their use and identifying weaknesses and potentialities of the use of color in school architecture. The methodology applied has as its object of study the Child Education Unit Ipê Amarelo, in Santa Maria, RS, considering methods of person-environment analysis - observation and visual selection of images. The methods are applied in order to understand the study area, the way the space is used and aspects of color relevance, checking the sensations, symbolisms and preferences of users (teachers and trainees) in relation to the colors in spaces. At the end, the obtained analyzes are presented, in order to contribute to the understanding of the symbolic relationships and influences of color in the use of spaces, serving as a model to be replicated in other institutions, preceding the color proposition stage of the architectural draft.
