Resumo: This study aimed to investigate the perceptions of social educators of an feminine detention institution about where they work and their work functions. To achieve the proposed objectives, we chose a qualitative bias. Data collection was conducted from individual semi-structured interviews with ten social educators of the Centro de Atendimento Socioeducativo Feminino (CASEF) in RS. Data analysis revealed a marked initial impact of the participants as they enter the workforce of the institution. This shock helps your place description - in the period of admission - as close to a strict prison unit. However, from the outset, respondents highlighted the perception of the institution where they work as distinct and qualitatively superior performance. They describe the history and trajectory of this unit like essential variables for acquiring current results more effective compared to the results of male units and the results achieved in the past. They believe that their functions are linked to education and that education has a close relationship with the stipulation of limits - through discipline - as they believe in the relationship with affective bond built between adolescents and socioeducadores. They Emphasize the importance of their work, and understand that it is for their category most of the responsibility for processes of socialization. Finally, we suggest the need to invest more in studies that demonstrate experiments that can be followed, replicable examples of relationships, methods, tools that leverage processes of socialization. It is understood that one must, above all, know and highlight the human aspect behind the existing stigmas related to all involved with the phenomenon of deprivation of liberty in adolescents.
