Resumo: The city of Aracaju was idealized to become the new capital of a more modern, rich and civilized Sergipe. From the proclamation of the republic in Brazil in 1889, new ideas, technological innovations, ways of acting and living in society were exported from the industrialized rich countries, also dictating new forms of entertainment that influenced the small capital of Sergipe. A striking expression of modernity was bohemia, which in the city of Aracaju had its most iconic spaces such as cabarets, casinos, clubs and bars in the central region from the 1920s until the beginning of its decline in the 1950s. Literatures reveal bohemian spaces full of sociability, stories, laughter and a vivid scenario of minutiae that marked the city's Centro Neighborhood. Bohemia was frequented by different social classes, but each one had their place. The modern city delimited and excluded, creating spaces that were not allowed to everyone. These delimitations were also expressed in bohemian spaces, whether in the zoning of these establishments, in the individuals who freely enjoyed themselves there or in those who were repressed by this same social organization. The revisit to these memories and their social analysis is developed through documents that express the daily life surrounded by bohemia and modernity, using periodicals, testimonials, and memorialist writings later seeking an approximation of the theme with the current scenario.
