This research work was developed from 2018 to 2019 and has as object of study the proficiency in Portuguese language of deaf students of the Libras Letters Course of the Federal University of Sergipe - UFS. Our main objective was to know the proficiency in Portuguese language of deaf students of the UFS Language Course - Libras. Our research took a qualitative approach and used as a methodology, the case study. Some questions guided our research, such as: Which studies have worked with similar themes to this research? Do deaf students enter higher education literate in written Portuguese? Are you able to follow the classes taught and do the academic work in Portuguese written? Are these deaf bilingual so that they can use the Portuguese-language books in the UFS central library (BICEN)? And that allow interacting in Portuguese language written with the listening students? What are the main legislations that have favored deaf students on their journey to higher education - Libras? Who are the students of the UFS Letters - Libras course? What Portuguese language skills are demonstrated by these students? What are the student's perceptions about the UFS Letters - Libras course? To help answer these questions, firstly we conducted a survey of the state of knowledge within the theme addressed, then addressed the issue of literacy and literacy in Portuguese and bilingual education, finally, we conducted the case study applying the following instruments Research: socioeconomic questionnaire; knowledge tests in Portuguese language; observations and interviews. In general, we evidenced that the knowledge of Portuguese words is still a problem for this student. We believe that the results of the analyzes can contribute to a reflection on the needs of deaf students of the UFS - Libras Letters course. |
