Resumo: Sexuality still is neglected and repressed usually, especially when is related to people with mental disorders. The denial of the exercise of sexuality to these subjects may compromise the offer of integral health care, according to the brazilian mental health politics. Therefore, the present research has the purpose to investigate the beliefs of with higher education mental health professionals who work at services in the state of Sergipe about sexuality aspects of people with severe mental health disorders, as well as the sexuality experience of these subjects narratives from the users of CAPS III in Aracaju-SE. Four studies were conducted to achieve it. The first one was a systematic review of the literature, with scientific papers published between 2013 and 2018 on the platforms Medline/Pubmed, SciELO, LILACS and PePSIC. In the second study was developed a scale of beliefs about the sexuality of people with severe mental disorders (ECS-TMS). The third study, an online questionnaire with the scale above was applied with 59 mental health professionals of Sergipe. The data was analysed by the statistic software SPSS. In the fourth study 62 users of CAPS III of Aracaju-SE participated. The data were produced through sexuality stories workshop. The elaborated texts were analysed by discourse textual analysis technique. The main results indicated that people with severe mental disorders do not recognize sex health as a right. This is due to the stigmas surrounding the psychopathologies and the social context of exclusion that they have been submitted throughout history. Besides that, it was evidenced in the literature the lack of preparation of mental health professionals regarding the management of sexual issues in the services that they work. With regard to the scale, its final version is composed of 15 items and the analysis indicated adequacy and good psychometric properties. The research with Sergipe professionals demonstrated that the longer experience time as mental health professional, more negative beliefs about sexuaility of the group of users referred. It is believed that these workers bring traces of the hospital-centric model that they experienced before the psychiatric reform. With CAPS users was possible to identify that by associating the experience of sexuality with the psychopathological condition, the discourses revealed negative aspects. The experiences narrated reflects social exclusion contexts, prejudice and vulnerabilities. It is expected that this research will contribute to the elaboration of strategies for the care of people with mental disorders that contemplate sexuality.
