Resumo: Family Health Staff (FHS), the contribution of their graduations related to specific demands from patients and relatives who deal with alcoholism and other drug addictions, besides that, it also aims to know the main difficulties and amenities present in the assistance given to this group by these professionals. It s been produced with qualitative, descriptive and exploratory methodology, having the city Aracaju and its Basic Health Units (BHU) as research universe. Its research group is made of doctors and nurses from the FHS, in a 36 people cross-section for each of these categories, with proportional distribution according to the number of professionals in each BHU. After we had applied and explored a questionnaire, we grouped the meaning cores and its own registry units, identifying three great themes which are divided in complementary subthemes: the organization of the service which meets these people, the way it s shown, the way it s offered and what is effectively used; the user of alcohol and other drugs in its own social group, family and other particular circles; the professional and its given assistance, showing its difficulties and amenities, besides identifying the professional skills to deal with these problems. The analysis of the results identified that only 8,3% of the doctors and 5,5% of the nurses said that they ve already been in touch with this in any kind of collective health specialization, residency and/or internship in mental health; 50% of the doctors and 94,4% of the nurses mentioned a kind of ineffective academic training, according to the unlinked theory when it comes to reality/poor/discriminatory/pharmacological. Based on this, the professionals talked about the lack of skills to work on this reality, from these, 48,6% pointed the main reason for the lack of technical knowledge; associated to the difficulties related to organization and structure like: lack of specialized professionals (44,4%), absence of the public government and its directed politics (31,9%), the long distance of the Psyco Social Attention Centers (PACs) ()36%, lack of efficaciousness (84,7%) and lack of link to the treatment (51,4%). We ve also observed not sufficient consolidated data in the system of information from the health secretariat, may it be because the lack of care directed to this group. Some structural amenities have been pointed as the organization and damage reduction, professional link, group work and free access. Some social aspects have been noticed which turn it difficult to deal with these substances just like professional disqualification, marginalization of the patients, scape from reality, extreme poverty and prejudice. With the completion of this work, came to light the need of an academic formation provided with innovative practices related to this theme, training in frequent service and awareness from the academics, health professionals, managers for the acquisition of technical competence associated to social commitment, besides the reorganization, updating and instrumentalization of health services, like structural health politics focused on these people and professionals which will be able to reach since the Coordinations, BHUs, credentials, PACs, Medical Emergencies, Therapeutic communities and to sum up, the whole society.
