Resumo: The object of study is the book “A Correnteza”, produced in 1979 by the novelist born in Sergipe (Brazil), Alina Paim, we look for the myths that break in this one, focusing mainly on the images of the sacred and its relation with the feminine, to show how they structure the search for identity of Isabel, the protagonist. The choice of this object was justified by the fact that the work can bring elements that bring us back to the experience of the sacred, a secondary subject in literature. In addition, we emphasize the importance of studying an author with a rich writing but still practically invisible in the literary world. Starting from the assumption of a vision, he objectified and analyzed the images of the sacred within this work, from a mythical-symbolic view, since reading of corpus was instigated to a study of character that seems to permeate / structure a trajectory and an identification of the central character. In this way we propose: a) to schedule images and symbols, especially those that express the sacred, a search for identity or the totality of the protagonist, b) to understand recurrent actions, as an empowerment of their goals, c) the meaning of why, after achieving his goal, a protagonist does the opposite way of what he has always done. We believe that the study in this perspective will bring a significant gain to Paim's work. The research used a qualitative approach, bibliographical nature, supported by theoretical renowned field of science of religion and studies on the myth, such as Joseph Campbell, Mircea Eliade, Raissa Cavalcanti, Gilbert Durand, Maria Zina Abreu, Gilberto de Melo Kujawski, Pe. Cleto Caliman, Francis Huxley, Roger Bastide and others. From the point of view of psychoanalysis we will consider Rudolf Otto and Carl G. Jung. The latter's studies show that the psyche is an ancestral memory of heredity that encompasses consciousness and the unconscious in search of unity, whose form presents the spirit; in addition, we will use the myths to interpret some symbols present in the mythical trajectory of the protagonist, dialoguing with modern literary criticism.
