Resumo: The rivers were responsible for the viability of occupation by the Amazon basins by the indigenous, and with the Europeans configured the first urban landscapes, preserved or not for posterity, giving rise to the historical nuclei. The preservation of these nuclei is at risk due to the decisions of the public authorities through architectural and urbanistic interventions that impact on social, economic, heritage, environmental and affective aspects. The objective of this research was to analyze how the interventions in the landscape of the historical nucleus of the city of Boa Vista, Roraima State, influenced the social experiences and the relationship with Rio Branco, from the perspective of the descendants of traditional families, considering the historical-social context. The research was characterized by being qualitative and exploratory, whose data collection was made by documentary, bibliographic survey and interviews with semi-structured script with 8 descendants of the traditional families of the city of Boa Vista. Rio Branco was seen as an important element that assisted the development of Boa Vista from the flow of business and people through the Porto do Cimento. The interventions made following the implementation of Orla Taumanan led to the disappearance of the Porto do Cimento, a space of historical and symbolic relevance. In addition, there were the demolition of public buildings such as the Intendência, the Mercado Municipal do Peixe, the Inspetoria Marítima e Aérea and the Hospital Nossa Senhora de Fátima. As for the remaining buildings, their uses were modified and few were kept the primary utilities. Traditional families, for generations, have accompanied the construction of local memory and identity through architecture, rituals, festivals and connection to the river. The descendants reports identified that the buildings built in the genesis of the occupation are symbolic links of the development process in Boa Vista, portraying the historical path of the community whose value does not allow losses. Changes in the landscape on the Rio Branco coast occurred without the consent of the affected population, changing the affective ties of the inhabitants of the historical nucleus. It influenced social experiences and the relationship with the Rio Branco, except for the vital needs, and, consequently, the city-river relationship was distancing itself from the basic necessities of everyday life for real estate speculation and tourism. Thus, the decisions of the public power over space were decisive as to the impacts caused by urban and architectural interventions in historical nuclei. They impact on various aspects of society, whether beneficial or not, will depend on the position that the government will adopt to implement the projects and evaluate the multifaces that such ventures will be interpreted by the community, especially preserving the memory and local identity.
