Resumo: This study is an analysis History - Anthropological over the district of São José do Itaporã - Muritiba Reconcave located in Southern Bahia, between the years 1970 and 1980, when the farmers of this locality experienced the crisis and drought in tobacco the entire region. To try to understand how this crisis they faced in their daily lives, which had as an aggravating factor the fact that the rural workers possess small tracts of land, sought to investigate how the settlement took place, possession of land, building their homes, their daily work in the garden plots and their strategies to survive in the countryside, these goals that reflect the object of my study, which is to understand how these farmers manage to survive and stay in the countryside without having the necessary conditions for their survival. Other aspects of the daily life of farmers Itaporã were analyzed here as the celebrations and leisure. For this, I used oral sources, questionnaire, photographs, newspapers, Minutes of the City Council, the IBGE, letters, land registration Ecclesiastical, and Maps.
