This work presents a reflection about a pedagogic experience carried out in an elementary school in the city of Pelotas, between the years 2002 and 2007. This experience was concerned about inserting the students in a literate environment and allowing them to have contact with various forms of child languages. The concept of literacy was the constitutive basis of the pedagogical relationships. The students were inserted in the universe of literate culture, ensuring them the marvelous and pleasurable experience of reading, while also strengthening their reading habits. This process has also unraveled actions relating the formation of the educators by providing them with some pedagogic proposals permeated by practices and literacy events, shared by children and educators. The experience was guided by Freire´s and Freinet´s pedagogical principles. The encounter with these authors, on the construction of the school s pedagogical plan provided a new way of seeing the social and educational context.
