Resumo: | The present study deals with the cultural and economic relations in the open street market of Nova Cruz – RN. It happens for more than a century and attracts a significant number of people from the city itself, but also from others of Rio Grande do Norte and Paraíba. The open street market is an ancient event that, besides the economic dictates, also reveals issues of identity, affection and loyalty that lead to a particular cultural representation. Thus, the research has as its central issue the importance of open street market in Nova Cruz – RN in its economic and cultural issues, and strove to primary data, focusing on oral history in order to provide a more intimate reading of the open street market event. Therefore, the conceptual theoretical framework sought to dialogue with authors such as Roberto Lobato Corrêa, Milton Santos, Paul Claval, Stuart Hall, Michel de Certeau, Rogerio Haesbaert, among others. Some authors have different theoretical perspectives, because the study sought to direct the fieldwork by the phenomenological and dialectical investigative methods. Thus, the analysis was based on authors who deal with the conceptions related to culture, especially the everyday intricacies that shape the cultural habits and reading these through cultural geography. In the meantime, it was necessary to treat the different approaches of territory and territoriality, which includes the concrete and symbolic dimensions, and also the political and economic demands of use, production and appropriation of space, because the open street market of Nova Cruz – RN is an event that interferes in the socio-spatial dynamics of the city, building networks, arrangements and connections that occur between city and country, as also between cities. Thus, it sought, through the theoretical framework intermediated by field research, to understand the issues related to the economy and culture, and also the interaction between them in the open street market of Nova Cruz – RN. |
