Resumo: From the functionalist perspective, conditionality is described in view of the contexts of use, considering both grammatical and speech aspects. In this context, the daily readings of online journalistic texts call our attention to the diversity of linguistic items used in the function of conditional connectors, having been observed both the presence of items already classified as conditional connectors by normative grammar, and as more innovative uses, specifically, the items se caso and se é que. Considering that, the general aim of the research is to investigate the syntactic, semantic and speech functions of conditionality relations, in which conditional connectors are inserted, especially the items se acaso, se caso and se é que, in online journalistic texts, based on principles of North American Functionalism. The work is justified by the need to expand studies on conditionality relationships, considering the innovations introduced by speakers, specifically, in online journalists and readers that/who comment texts. Thus, it is necessary to study the complexity of the conditional connectors already listed, for, among other aspects, to understand if the connector se caso shows functional divergences related to the uses of the connector se acaso. About the connector se é que, it is mentioned that this connector gives emphasis when used as a conditional conjunction phrase (LEÃO, 1961), which makes opportune to investigate more. “The Corpus do Português NOW” was the database chosen for this investigation, where were selected 60 (sixty) online journalistic texts, reaching journalistic supports of different regions from Brazil. This work is based on studies developed by Bybee (2016; 2010), Givón (1984; 1991; 2007), Neves (2001; 2006; 2018), among other functionalist linguists. According to the application of the parameters and research criteria of prototypicity described, and the principles of marking, iconicity and grammaticalization, we found the functional diversity of the uses of conditional connectors in online journalistic texts had direct influence on textual and speech organization. It was evidenced factors such as journalistic textual genres, verb forms, presence of aspectual, modal and temporal periphrastic specifiers, and temporal-mode relationships of the verbs that constitute the conditional adverbial clauses originated by the uses of connectors, acting as probable motivators for the choice of these connectors by part of the users. In this way, it was presented the cognitive and interactional motivations inherent to the uses of these connectors, giving emphasis to their relations to reach the communicative purpose of the users responsible for the texts.
