The grammar of a language is constituted by the emergence of its use in the communication and interaction of its speakers and, from this, its regularities. This has been the guiding premise of studies of the functionalist perspective of language. In this paper, we present our analytical considerations on the behavior of the linguistic item, já que it reveals different nuances regarding its use and what is predicted in the traditional grammar of the Portuguese language of Brazil, as Cunha (2008) points out. Bechara (2009). Our objective in this work is, from the analysis of the data, to verify the semantic slippage with a view to the pragmatic discursivity of this periphrasis from the principles of grammaticalization proposed by Hopper (1991) and Bybee (2010), as well as retroactive textual sequencing - propeller presented by Tavares (2012), describing its course in the language in use. In order to do so, we took as a database for this observation, texts transcribed from orality in real situations of interaction, as well as texts written by the participants themselves - both in the order of narration and in the order of reporting - present in Corpus D&G (1998). The results corroborate the principle of unidirectionality, following the cline predicted for the change of an item of the language, ratifying the significant stage of grammaticalization in which the element under study is found.
