Resumo: The present thesis, entitled – “Merleau-Ponty and the aesthetic experience of the world” – aimed to explore the aesthetic statute of Maurice Merleau-Ponty ‘s thought. For this purpose, several Works of the philosopher were consulted, highlighting the Phenomenology of Perception. Taking as a starting point the sensitive experience, structured by the relation between the body itself and the world, whose developments attest the carnal interconnection between them. This relationship is marked by an expressive fecundity which pulsates in each part of the carnal tissue and mobilizes the body in the invention of the ways of significations, by which the meaning of the sensitive experience is culturally conveyed. This expressive fecundity deflagrates an aesthetic logos, a knowledge, initially mute, which emerges in the sensitive experience and is uttered in the activity of the body itself. The ways of expression, in particular the language and the pictorial art , are prototypes of this dialectical exercise by which the meaning of the sensitive experience fecundates the activity of the various actors in the world of life.
