Pessoas com deficiência visual e sexualidade: concepções e vivências

Resumo: people with visual disabilities represent a significant portion of the population, but still face many difficulties in fulfilling rights in all aspects of life, including sexual health. Sexuality is still a very sensitive issue in our society, and when it comes to people with visual disabilities is noticed that there are several myths regarding their sexuality, that interfere with their access to sexual health and the expression of a full sexuality, free of preconception. Objective: to analyze how sexuality is conceived and experienced by people with visual disabilities. Methodological path: this is an exploratory study with qualitative approach, conducted in 17 persons with visual disabilities, users of an support institution. The study met the following inclusion criteria: person with visual disabilities; older than 18 years. And exclusion criteria: not present other associated disabilities to visual. Data collection was conducted from November to December 2015 through the technique of focus groups. The focus group sessions were done weekly and recorded with the aid of two recorders type MP4. After collection, the data were transcribed and analyzed using content analysis. The present research has been approved by the Ethics Committee in Research of the Health Sciences Center of the Federal University of Paraíba, under Protocolo nº0264/15 e CAAE: 44927215.2.0000.5188. Results: from the analysis, emerged five thematic categories: Sexuality: from conception to expression; Sexuality in childhood and adolescence: weakness in access for information; Obstacles to the expression of their sexuality; Double challenge for women: visual disability and gender issues; and Sex Education: weaknesses and prospects. Conclusion: from reflection on the placement of the participants, it is concluded that the society is still have little understanding in relation to sexuality of people with visual disability, which interferes with access to specific and adapted sexual information. It highlights the importance of health professionals, especially the nurse, on intervention of sex education together to these people and family, and the development of more research and specific materials in the area of sexual health for people with visual disability.
