Resumo: Population aging is a worldwide phenomenon, given the reduction in the birth rate and the increase in life expectancy. Aging at work is also a trend, including at the University. The increase in the number of aging workers raises the question: How does ageism manifest itself in the teaching career at the Federal University of Piauí? In competitive workplaces ageism expands, which leads to the search for the effect of academic productivism on ageism. The general objective is to analyze how ageism manifests itself in the teaching career at the Federal University of Piauí. To complete the objectives, a content analysis was carried out on legislation related to the teaching career, and on interviews with professors of different age groups at the Federal University of Piauí. In the quantitative phase of the work, Exploratory Factor Analysis and multiple linear regression were performed based on the Escala de Ageísmo no Contexto Organizacional – EACO. There is a predominance of negative ageism in relation to positive ageism in the institution, especially in young professors. Positive ageism is more present in old professors. Professors linked to Postgraduate Programs are more sensitive to the positive and negative factors of ageism. Ageism exists linked to academic productivity, but in more competitive sectors, intergenerational conflicts are replaced by conflicts of a different nature.
