Resumo: | The main goal of this work is to investigate the discourse in the narrative of Vidas Secas and other non-fictional writings of Graciliano Ramos under the point of view of Discourse Analysis with a French orientation. To this end, and based on a review of Ramos's work, my research methodologically trails an interpretation which focus on the discursiveness that emerges from the textual materiality. In this way, the analytical corpus is permeated with significance and meanings that slide and are affected by the conditions of production the Vargas government. The interpretative analysis of this corpus allowed for the study of Vidas Secas as a as large archive containing the effects of meaning, by either constructing them, declaring them, or by searching for them elsewhere. The study is performed by the means of two well-delimited, theoretical concepts. The first one corresponds to the conditions of production that is, the external conditions, the historical and social context in which Vidas Secas was written. The second concept corresponds to the ideology that interpellates Graciliano Ramos as an individual, creating effects of meaning in his discourse. With this theoretical and methodological focus, it was possible to detect markers of the conditions of production, as well as of the ideology, present in Ramos's writings. Also observed were markers of the violence, the silencing, the social inequality, the marginalization, the illiteracy, and the exploitation that surrounded the Brazilian society in that period of time. The studied literary work presents a mirror of the social illness that afflicted the less favored individuals. Therefore, this analysis of Graciliano Ramos's writings allows us to understand an important period in Brazil's history through the markers of external factors that permeate his work. |
