Resumo: | The fantastic literature of Romanticism, inspired by the irrational, coupled with the religious and positivist dogmas of end of the century in America, served as a strong influence for the development of the themes of the modernist fantastic. Many writers introduced in Hispanic America a supernatural literature, which aimed to confront the prevailing positivist philosophy at that time. Through pseudo-sciences and occult sciences, the modernists found a new alternative route to religion, to communicate with the transcendental, and to try to understand and answer many questions that conventional science could not explain. Our proposal, in this work, is to show the reflections of pseudo-sciences and of the occultism in the fantastic tales of modernist writer Rubén Darío. For the realization of our proposal we chose as an analytical corpus the fantastic tales “The Case of Miss Amelia” (DARÍO, 2002), and “The Strange Death of Fray Pedro” (DARÍO, 2002), both by Rubén Darío. The main references used to precede the analysis were: Ceserani (2006), Todorov (1981), Lovecraft (1987), Furtado (1980), among others. The main theoretical supports used for the analysis were: Hahn (1978), Martín (2009), Vax (1965), among others. After the analysis, it was verified that the two stories perfectly meet the objectives of this research, since in both narratives the presence of various elements of occultism influence, esoterism and pseudo-sciences is clearly shown, fact that we believe emphasize the relevance of our study. |
