Introduction: Pregnancy is a special moment that requires care with maternal habits, such as the use of licit drugs, which can influence the mother-fetus binomial and, therefore, health intervention and promotion become important. Objective: To verify the prevalence of licit drug use by pregnant women and their perception of prenatal care in Basic Health Units (BHU) and Family Health Strategy (FHS) in the city of Santa Maria / RS. Moreover, to elaborate a documentary to health professionals about the importance of approaching the use of licit and illicit drugs by pregnant women in the prenatal period. Methodology: It is a study with sequential explanatory mixed methods. In the quantitative phase, a transversal study was carried out to collect the use of licit drugs by pregnant women and socioeconomic characteristics. In the qualitative phase, pregnant women who use drugs were interviewed to know the perception of these about prenatal care. From the data collected, a documentary was developed with assistance of the "MAIS UNIFRA" and the Advertising and Marketing Course of a teaching institution. Results: Quantitative study - Considering the 255 pregnant women, the mean age was 25,44 (SD 6,6). Most of the women were white, single, had a montlhy family income of more than 1 minimum wange, had more than eight years of study and did not work or study at the time of this study. The prevalence of pregnant smokers was 12,55% and of pregnant women who used alcohol was 14,12%. Qualitative study - Five categories emerged from interviews: prenatal from the perspective of pregnant women, habit and knowledge about smoking during pregnancy, habit and knowledge about use of alcohol during pregnancy, previous experiences and empirical knowledge, how the pregnant woman wants to talk about her habit. Product developed: The documentary "Hope, the actions’ mother" demonstrated the importance of the approach and communication between the health professional and the pregnant woman user of licit and illicit drugs, emphasizing the professional's role in the situation experienced by the pregnant woman. In addition, it highlighted the differentiated, comprehensive, multidisciplinary and qualified assistance, as a way of improving the care practices of pregnant women users. Conclusion: The use of drugs in pregnancy requires the detection by the health professional to perform, with these women, interventions that stimulate the change of habit and knowledge on the subject. Therefore, it is expected that this documentary can be used as a tool for training, qualification or knowledge and as an aid to health professionals in prenatal consultations. |
