Resumo: This research focused on pedagogical documentation in the context of Early Childhood Education. In this sense, the present investigation had as a general objective to investigate the meanings that teachers of a school of Early Childhood Education in Santa Maria-RS have about didactic-pedagogical documentation. In addition, as specific objectives, we sought to understand how the registration and construction of pedagogical documentation occurs in the daily practice of early childhood teachers, identify the concepts of childhood that support the elaboration of documentation and analyze the possibilities of pedagogical documentation as a tool methodology in pedagogical work in Early Childhood Education. For the present research, the qualitative and interpretative approach was chosen, outlining study categories for the analysis of the data collected through semi-structured interviews. As a result of the research, it was possible to notice that the teachers participating in the study are not close to the concepts that involve the development of the pedagogical documentation, but it was understood that they perform the registration, analyzing their pedagogical practices. In addition, it was possible to understand that understanding the meaning of the concepts is important, after all, it is an integral part of the act of carrying out the pedagogical documentation in a participatory way.
