Adequate nutrition is essential to the growth and development of pediatric patients. Nutritional therapy aims to maintain and recover a patient's nutritional condition, through enteral nutrition administration. To do this, it is indispensable to use theoretical tools that allow nutritional needs evaluation for more suitable patient prescription. Objectives: Accomplish a collection, on current literature, of needs or available nutritional recommendations for critically sick pediatric public in use of enteral diet and develop the software prototype for pediatrics patients’ nutritional prescription in enteral diet. Method: This is a product development study; it is organized in two stages. First, the integrative literature review was held by searching in the Medical Publications of the U.S. National Library of Medicine, Virtual Health Library, and Scientific Electronic Library Online. Health Sciences Descriptors and Medical Subject Headings Database have been used. The articles, which have been initially evaluated according to the title and abstract, and inclusion/exclusion predetermined criteria, selected the completed article reading. Based on the first stage results and using the “cascade” pattern, the software prototype was developed. The modeling development was drawn from the diagram stage and market survey about nutritional software. Results: There were 289 articles included, and in the end 22 articles were analyzed. It was observed that 14 articles recommended indirect calorimetry for measurement of energy expenditure and twenty suggested careful use of prediction equations or may not recommend them. The validation of a new equation was described in an article. For proteins, nitrogen balance was indicated for the use of 1.5 to 2 g/kg/day. There were collected available information from fifty infant formulas and 11 nutritional enteral formulas. The modeling development is the main factor that application becomes successful, the customer flow utilizing and the main functions were established considering ease comprehension and it was intuitive for the user. Final considerations: It suggests that studies are achieved to develop more accurate equations for estimating the energy consumption in critical pediatric patients. As well as, there is the consensus necessity of elaborating micronutrition needs. The health software application improves the quality attention that is offered to the pediatric population, it makes the process more organized, bringing easiness and data confidentiality, besides it streamlines the decision-making process. Technical product/technologic: A software/ app product was developed – a prototype that was idealized by a multidisciplinary team and it is in the prototype stage, intended to contemplate other functionalities. The innovative character,so far there aren’t other software with the same objective and directed for children. As soon as implemented, it was designed to assist and facilitate the appraisal and promotion evaluation and nutritional prescription for pediatric patients by prescribers’ professionals, allowing more efficient conduct. |
