Resumo: The formation of the Military School System of Brazil, in the different Brazilian regions, and its formation process in the city of Santa Maria, RS, has relevance in the history of Brazil and is significant for Brazilian society, both military and civil, by the constant education and quality education. The study objective is analyze the different teaching profiles and their impact on teaching practices and humanities teaching at the Military College of Santa Maria - RS. It also search to reflect on teaching in a school environment in the current context, demonstrating the transformations, instabilities and new demands necessary for teachers to act before the new educational paradigm. In addition, the importance of teaching humanities to maintain fundamental values for society was highlighted, and finally mapped the distribution of the various teaching profiles within the Military College of Santa Maria-RS. The research is a case study, based on the qualitative-quantitative method and hermeneutics. The research techniques were based in the questionnaire and in the interview for the collection of data of teaching practices in the disciplines of humanities researched (Philosophy, Geography, History, Sociology). Initially, a historical review of the formation process of the Brazilian Military School System was carried out, with the purpose of presenting its origins, scenarios of creation / location of the various Military Schools, purposes and objectives of the Brazilian Army in creating and maintaining educational institutions basic. The process of formation of the Military College of Santa Maria was described, and the theoretical support based on the bibliographical revision on teaching, humanities teaching and teacher training was presented. The sample consisted of ten (10) professors of humanities from the Military School of Santa Maria. Data collection was conducted in 2018, with the application of a questionnaire and interview, in order to identify and analyze teachers' visions and expectations about teaching practices, as well as to obtain sociocultural data that allowed describing the different characteristics of the different teaching profiles. The results showed that the teaching of humanities is valued within the Teaching Division, that there is a general concern with the quality of teaching, there is respect for the teaching autonomy and that the teaching profiles have different formative trajectories, experiences and visions , however, being in line with the pedagogical proposal of the School. It is concluded that the different teaching profiles are an important characteristic inherent to Military Schools and should be used within the school as a means for training and enrichment of teaching. Therefore, it is suggested that the results obtained should support school management, as well as a reference for teachers about the situation of the humanities in the Santa Maria-RS Military School.
