Introduction: Pregnancy is a time that requires attention and care for the health of the woman and the fetus in training. It is during prenatal care that health professionals can observe over time the physical and psychoemotional aspects of the pregnant woman. Main objective: to build an informative guide to assess the mental health of pregnant and postpartum women, for use by professionals in primary health care. Specific objectives: Make an integrative review of the literature on mental health of pregnant and postpartum women; understand the perception of health professionals and attention to mental health of pregnant and postpartum women in primary care and its challenges regarding the recognition and referrals; ecologically validate the information guide for assessing the mental health of the pregnant / postpartum women for use by professionals in primary health care. Method: integrative and descriptive qualitative research review with exploratory feature performed with two teams of primary health care in a city in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul / RS. Results: This work has resulted in two manuscripts and a product that integrate it. The first manuscript aimed to verify the scientific literature the instruments used to assess the mental health of pregnant and postpartum women through an integrative literature review. The results were grouped into: Characteristics of studies; Screening for Mental Health Survey and the instruments used in the mental health evaluation in pregnant and postpartum women; Postpartum Depression Scale EPDS Edimburgo-: most used instrument. It has been found the need for screening in mental health in the prenatal and postpartum care as a routine obstetric by health professionals of primary care. Furthermore, it was recognized the Edimburgo- postpartum depression scale (EPDS) used as another instrument. The second manuscript sought to understand the perception of health professionals and attention to mental health of pregnant and postpartum women in primary care and its challenges regarding the recognition and referrals. The findings of the content analysis was performed from the perspective of Bronfenbrenner Bioecological Theory of Human Development, considered two of the four components of the PPCT model (People, Process, Context and Time). Final Thoughts: The study provided expand knowledge on the assessment of mental health of pregnant and postpartum women during the prenatal, identifying existing instruments and tools, as well as understanding as performed by health professionals to identify and recognize signs and symptoms related to mental health during pregnancy and postpartum. It highlights the need for early identification, diagnosis and treatment adequate to meet this increasingly significant demand in the current context and the strengthening of basic health staff for necessary actions and interventions. It is expected that this Guide will be adopted in primary care settings to improve the ability of different professionals in perception about the mental health of pregnant and postpartum women treated at the site. |
