Resumo: The public schools, especially the ones offering basic education, are frequented, mostly, by students from low social classes. However, the educational model adopted by the stated does not meet their interests, their dreams and their perspectives. This work is centered in these conflicts, the limits and possibilities of a public education capable of attend the need of mass classes. The subjects of this research are educators and students of a Cuiabá’s public school dealing with youth and adults education. For a result as close as possible of the reality, I choose a qualitative method, with ethnographic, in critical-dialectical perspective. As methodological proceedings we adopted audio records, questionnaire, pre-elaborated interviews, video recordings, reports and observations. The theoretical foundations are based, mostly, in the research of educator like Paulo Freire, Moacir Gadotti, Carlos Alberto Torres, Carlos Brandão, Celso de Rui Beisiegel among others. The results revealed in the data analysis show that, even with these conflicts, the actual reality demands a new behavior when dealing with public education, especially to offer mass classes what they really want. The results still show the possibilities of a popular education committed in the public schools universe.
