Resumo: | This dissertation is the result of research on the type of human formed at the Federal Institute of Mato Grosso (IFMT), with a specific focus on the Cuiabá - Octayde Jorge da Silva campus. Considering that the educational institution has more than 25,000 enrolled students, playing a fundamental role in the human formation of the state, it has become essential to investigate in more depth the outcome of this formation, namely, the profile of the graduate. This institution emphasizes the teaching of science and, above all, technology, which has a profound impact on the formation of a specific type of human being. That is, an individual with a mindset focused on problem-solving, technical and scientific skills, and an understanding of the importance of science and technology in social decisions. These individuals play a significant role in advancing society and addressing contemporary challenges. Furthermore, this institution is a crucial center for the transfer of knowledge, with an emphasis on the production of scientific and technological content. As science and technology become increasingly influential in societal decisions, it is essential to understand how this institution shapes the type of human that emerges from it. The central objective was to provide a description of the type of human formed at IFMT, considering positivism as explained by the German thinker Eric Voegelin. This thinker, with his conception of positivism, provided the central theoretical focus, highlighting the view of a human being who lives between the immanent and the transcendent. While positivism emphasizes science and technology as the primary solvers of human problems, Voegelin (2019) argues that positivism only addresses intramundane problems, in which indeterminate possibilities are disregarded. The research results, obtained through semi-structured interviews with 5 (five) IFMT students, reveal a type of human strongly influenced by confidence in technological and scientific capacity as the basis for decisions in society. These individuals see science and technology as means to reduce human suffering and achieve material accomplishments, reflecting positivism's emphasis on seeking immanent solutions. We refer to the type of human formed by IFMT as a technical-progressive. That is, an individual who relies on rational capacity to develop intramundane solutions to problems considered by the positivist paradigm, using science and technology, and considering the ethical modifications that these discoveries may bring. |
