Resumo: Physical activity aims to improve the health levels of the population, in order to promote the quality of life, reducing risks and health problems such as degenerative cronic- diseases. Objective: To analyze the factors associated with physical activity among adults living in four municipalities of Legal Amazonia, Mato Grosso. Methods: Cross-sectional population-based study conducted with a random sample of 1296 adults of both sexes aged 20-59 years residing in Alta Floresta, Diamantino, Sinop and Sorriso, located at Legal Amazon - Mato Grosso. Physical activity was assessed by the International Physical Activity Questionnary- IPAQ. Statistical analysis were made be through tables with absolute and relative frequency. The associations between the independent variables and the dependent variable were performed by the Chi – square (Rao-Scott). A multivariate ordinal regression analysis was used in order to identify associated factors to physical activity. In all analyzes the level of significance consided was 0.05 and svy commands in Statav.11.1. The project was approved by the research ethics committee of the University Hospital Julio Müller. Results: The mean age of the adults was 35.85 years (SE ± 0.29), 51.08% of adults in 1296 were male, 34.15% were aged 20-29 years old, 53, 87% declared themselves as mixed race, 72.05% were married and 49.57% of the natural southern region, 27.47% had a monthly per capita household income between one and the minimum wage. The percentage of very active adults was 7.70%, 19.78%, assets 27.16% 45.36% sedentary and irregularly active. Physical activity associated to age (40-49 years) p = 0.02 (OR= 1.40), less educated (≤4 years) p ≤0.01 (OR =1.52), municipality of residence (Sinop) p = 0.03, it was working / interning p=0.02 (OR=1,30), and weight rating “no overweight” BMI p = 0.04 (OR=1.38). Conclusion: Physical activity had a higher frequency in irregularly active category. There was no statistically significant difference between the sexes after adjusting variables. Variables: age, education, municipality of residence, work and weight rating (BMI) were associated with physical activity.
