Resumo: Population aging brings with it demands to be met are necessary policies and actions based on the real needs of this population. Therefore, researchers have conducted studies to understand the elderly, but research on living conditions and dissatisfaction with life of elderly Cuiabá was not found. Epidemiological, cross household survey. Aimed to identify the living conditions and describe the sociodemographic characteristics of older people living in the city of Cuiabá - MT. Data collection was performed by applying the questionnaire BOAS. We interviewed 573 individuals in the urban area of the city of Cuiabá, MT, selected through cluster sampling, stratified proportional to size, by sex. For analysis of dissatisfaction associations between the dependent variable dissatisfaction with life and the independent variables were evaluated in order bivariate (chi-square with RP and 95%). Then, for the multivariate model was applied Poisson regression Robusto. In this model included all independent variables or factors in the bivariate analysis with p <0.20. For the input variables into the model we used the backward method. Of the 573 respondents, 55.7% are women, most seniors have between 60 and 69 (45.9%). Most are married or have a partner (54.3%), 30.4% are widowed and 73.5% claim to read and write. Most said he was pleased with the people who live (81.0%). Individual income is primarily the minimum wage (67%), 36.5% report ever missing a little for their expenses. 21.8% of the elderly consider the erosion of health and lack of money (12.7%) their main problem everyday .. The prevalence of dissatisfaction with life was 15.7%. The reasons for dissatisfaction were mainly appointed health problems (68.2%) and economic (48.2%). Dissatisfaction with life was associated with sex (PR = 1.54, 95% CI: 1.02, 2.32), education (PR = 2.57, 95% CI: 1.44, 4.6) and income (PR = 3.29, 95% CI: 1.29, 8.42). In multivariate analysis, gender (PR = 1.50, 95% CI: 1.00, 2.25) and education (PR = 2.54, 95% CI: 1.42, 4.54) remained associated with dissatisfaction with life. It can be concluded that a small portion of the population is dissatisfied and dissatisfaction is associated with female sex and low education, so it is suggested measures of interventions that minimize the negative effects of proven feminization of old age and actions that facilitate and encourage access education among the elderly in the same way, measures that promote social and economic equality between the sexes.
